Practicing the Feldenkrais Method since 1999
David Sullivan trained in Germany and Australia, returning to Auckland in 2001 to work full time as a Feldenkrais practitioner. David has served on the New Zealand Feldenkrais Guild executive since near the beginning of his career and was guild president for 5 years. In 2016 David became an Assistant Trainer, mentoring and assisting in the training of new practitioners.
His practice involves one-on-one lessons with the focus on returning clients to natural, pain-free, functional movement. His clients range from professional musicians and sportspeople to stroke and cerebral palsy sufferers. Generally though, people come to alleviate some sort of pain.
Having lived with chronic back pain for around 10 years himself, David is a testament to the fact that when we learn an alternative to our habitual pattern, the pain cycle can be broken.
David Sullivan
Born and raised in Auckland, David Sullivan developed chronic lower back pain at 17 – the reason for which was later found to be scoliosis. He tried many methods, conventional and unconventional, to alleviate this problem with no success.
David was introduced to the Feldenkrais Method in the form of rehabilitation after a chest injury through a skiing accident in Switzerland in 1994. The method not only helped mobility, but also eventually fully alleviated his lower back, and even knee pain.
